Corallium rubrum

This species of coral comes from the Mediterranean and is a historically important type of coral. It has a solid red colour, and is found at depths of 50 to 200m. Sciacca coral from Sicily also belongs to coralium rubrum and was fished in the late 19th century at depths of 150-200m off Sicily.
